This is especially true in the case of vehicles that are not currently running.  However, there is still money to be made, and most legitimate and authorized vehicle donation centers will be happy to come and haul your old car, truck or boat away for free.  You should be suspicious of any supposedly authorized vehicle donation center that would require you to pay for towing services and ask.

If the fair value of your car is less than $250, there is no reason to bother with a form of donation from your chosen charity or a third-party organization such as an authorized vehicle donation center.  However, over that amount, you’ll need a receipt in writing.  If more than $5,000 is received for your vehicle, you will require an additional form (Form 8283, section B) to be signed by a representative of the authorized vehicle donation center in question and an independent appraisal.

Though there are certainly charlatans out there who would take advantage of charitable giving to line their own pockets, the IRS and state governments take this very seriously.  The state Attorney General’s office will have a list of known scammers to avoid.  Once you know the  authorized vehicle donation center you’ve chosen is on the up and up, you can donate with peace of mind.

If you are a handyman doing any kind of home maintenance or home improvement then you know that there are certain power tools that are a must have. Sure there are some power tools that are nice to have or come in handy at times but you can usually get by without them. Here is my list of must have power tools:

Cordless Screwdriver - this tool will come in handy when you have some light weight work to do and you don’t want to get out the heavy duty power tools. Cordless screwdrivers are good for putting toys together, assembling furniture, hanging pictures or pre-drilling holes for screws. Make sure that you get one that has a reversible switch so that you can also back screws out.

Cordless Drill - you need this if you have any large projects that you work on. You can drill larger holes. Most home owners can get by with a 3/8 inch drill but go for the 1/2 inch - it won’t cost that much more and it’s money well spent.

Corded Drill - sometimes you just need the power that only a corded drill gives you. You are limited by the length of the cord but get an extension cord and you’re good to go. Again, go for the 1/2 inch corded drill.

Power Circular Saw - these are much faster than a hand saw and they are also easier on the hands. Break this power tool out whenever you need to cut 2×4s, plywood, particle board or anything else. Most will cut up to a 3 inch thick board. A must have for any major home remodeling job.

Jig Saw - use this to make those tight cuts. Comes in handy anytime you need to make intricate cuts with curves or you need to follow an outline. This is a must if you plan to do any type of cabinet work. You may have a different list of must have power tools but most of my selection will also probably be on your list. And if the power tools that I selected aren’t on your list then good. Your handyman jobs are probably different from mine.
